Education And Research Internship Program:

Overview:

The challenging endeavour of the academy is to promote research and education in the field of orthopaedics, sports medicine and musculoskeletal disorders thereby providing the path to exhibit innovation irrespective of the global strata of any kind. An active research agenda educates and stimulates teaching, offering the latest information and the newest insights directly to the table. Collaborating with faculty on research initiatives equips students with the distinctive viewpoint and analytical abilities required to resolve the challenges of the future. Thus, we are firm and steadfast to pronounce that the program is the best of the brains we offer.

This clinical research internship program provides exposure to clinical and in-vitro research in medicine predominantly in the orthopaedic discipline. Interns will be engaged and tutored under a senior researcher, through the process of clinical research from conceptualizing a research study to manuscript writing and submission in a high impact peer reviewed journal. In addition, interns will be participating in journal clubs, CME programs and society meetings of the ortho clubs under Kerala & Tamil Nadu orthopaedic association to get a wide range of knowledge in the musculoskeletal forum.

Tenets:

  • To acquaint with the research process and to systematically educate students in designing the study, selecting appropriate methodology, and execution of data collection process.
  • To impart skills in the areas of developing clinical and in vitro research projects, data analysis, and preparing and presenting findings at meetings that involve data summarization and statistical analysis.
  • To familiarize students in formulating the aim and objectives for evaluating clinical outcomes in orthopaedics.
  • To improve expertise and skills in critically evaluating literature to assist in developing a research plan, interpretation of data, and implementation into clinical practice.

Collaboration:

Interns/ Fellows will be tutored and mentored by multi-disciplinary team at many levels with whom we are associated with. Currently we are associated with some of the top medical and technological institutions including Government Medical College, Kozhikode. Kerala., GMC Ortho Hospital (Foundation), Kozhikode, Kerala., Omandurar Government Medical College, Chennai, Tamil Nadu., Yenepoya Medical college, Yenepoya university, Mangalore., National Institute of Technology (NIT) Kozhikode, Kerala., for the purpose of research and jointly working on multiple projects together.

Evaluation:

Attendance as per the department schedule is mandatory. Active participation in regular meetings and maintaining a logbook prescribed for the complete tenure, is essential. Interns are expected to present their ideas on ongoing research projects and required to submit a final review of every manuscript or paper or poster in which they are involved. The certificates for the internship program will only be provided after individual evaluation of the candidate after fulfillment of the obligatory norms.

Program Eligibility & Duration:

Eligibility requirement for the ORTHOPAEDIC CLINICAL RESEARCH INTERNSHIP/FELLOWSHIP program is postgraduation in life sciences, paramedical sciences and mathematics, 6-month internship and 2-year fellowship programs are available and are recruited every year on the month of January and July. Short duration clerkship considerations are available throughout the academic year and are considered on individual basis after interview.
